Why do the crab fishermen crew have such ghetto low technology boats?

I have been watching the show on the discovery channel where they show the diffrent crews gathering the alaskan crab..and it looks so hard and dangerous having the crew stand out on the deck realing in the heavy cages i was thinking they should just have cages that are machine powered and then maybe the captain can control everything form inside the boat.... just by pushing a on or two..and also maybe nit as much cre men would be needed...
