Do you have to have a degree to write obituaries?

I recently read of a person who makes extra money writing obituaries for her local newspaper. I am in college and I intend to get a degree, but for right now I find myself a broke college student with very limited options. I think, even though it is kind of morbid, I would be pretty good at this, but do you have to have a degree?
